Quality Control of Conventional X-Ray Tube in Three Tertiary Hospitals in South-East, Nigeria

 Background:Quality control of conventional x-ray tube ensures that the patient integral radiation dose is minimized and image quality improved, by controlling beam to reduce scatter radiation.
 Objective:To assess tubes for half value layer (HVL), field light congruence using known standard.
 Methodology:The HVLs were measured calibrated, non-invasive, digital multifunctional detector meter incorporate computer output. The was positioned at center collimated axis with focus-to-image distance (FID) 100 cm. Tube potentials 80 kVp selected, used make exposures. corresponding then recorded. Also, placing 18 cm x 24 cassette loaded film FID collimator in ON position metal markers delineate periphery field. Misalignment calculated from developed radiographs standard formula.
 Results:The HVL ranged 3.40 4.4mmAl. sum misalignment both orthogonal directions 7.21 9.70 % all three centers.
 Conclusion:The within limit centers studied. However, grossly misaligned.
